Hi all, Quick report on our trail work day on Saturday at Santa Teresa: Wow! There must have had 50 people volunteering that day - most of whom were high school kids fulfilling some sort of civic duty requirement. There was also a bunch from a local group called "Friends of Santa Teresa Park", and then a bunch of others: at least one person from the Bay Area Ridge Trail Committee, a few other locals who actual built the trail that we were working on (about 10 years prior), Kitty Monahan (sp? I.e. the Santa Clara County Parks and Rec Open Space Committee member who fought adamantly to not allow bikes in New Almaden Quicksilver Park - and lost...), various other local folks, and 7 of us representing local MTBers. Involved were: Keith White, Rich Henthorn, another guy who rides with us whom I'm spacing your name (sorry), Dawn Weathersbee, Rich Davis, my wife Shaney, and myself. Santa Clara provided: snacks, water, dirt, gravel, transpo to/from the work-site, tools, a gas-powered wheelbarrow (!), a gas-powered dirt-compactor (!), several crew leaders, and lunch. Our work was solely limited to the Stile Ranch trail switchback near the West entrance of the park (near Fortini Road). This trail was seriously eroded over this last winter, which had been providing a fun and challenging decent and ascent on MTB, but it was obviously in need of repair for multi-use purposes. We probably didn't start until about 9:30am, but we got a lot done on that trail by Noon. Filled in ruts, added new waterbars, fixed drainages, etc.. We basically did a fair amount of sanitizing of the trail - which sucked - but it really did need it due to the amount of erosion that occurred over the Winter. At least those waterbars should provide a few small "jumps" now, as a sort of reconciliation... Thanks Dawn, Rich, Rich, Keith, and guy-who-I'm-spacing-your-name!
-Scott Schlachter Rich just informed me - Bob Lofland (which I'm now probably spelling wrong...). Bob was the guy who's name I was spacing. Sorry Bob, and thanks again for joining us! -Scott
