Race Report by Peter Sterlacci What a great day at Lake Sonoma for today's Billy Cross race!! This had to be the most 'technical' course I have raced on in terms of really tight turns, some amazingly gnarly creek crossings, some steep pitches, etc. It was hard to pass people and I was so exhausted after doing 3 laps (6 miles each) in the Sports 31-40 category. The good news is that I placed!! I finished 3rd (out of 12) only a minute or so behind the 2nd place finisher. My first metal!!! (Must be that new gary Fisher Sugar 1!!) It was the hardest, but most rewarding 18 mile race I have ever done. Boggs is a walk in the park in my mind. I went to the race as the lone 'TWW' rep along with Jon Rayner (a not team guy). We arrived yesterday, pitched out tents, and got out at 7:00pm for a pre-ride. Thank God we pre-rode, but as it turned out we rode the course the opposite way that the organizers decided to run it today. Speaking of the organizers, they are great. Really cool, very friendly, etc. It was really nice to go to such a 'grass roots' race and hang out and talk with lots of people. I forgot their names, but the wife of this husband-wife team saw my TWW jersey and talked about how much she loves the TWW people and is so happy when we come. I am not too sure now if I want to race a SS there in the 8hr!!! I had a hard enough time on my geared bike!! I will be on a business trip from 7/16-7/22, but will try my hardest to go to the race on 7/23. This is great race run by great people. Anybody out there planning to drive up Sunday morning bright and early from the South Bay area?? If I cannot make it, then I could simply apply my 3rd place finish to the TWW point system!!! :o)
