TWW helps out ROMP at Downieville

Event Report by Pete Rudnick

Robert ouye and myself along with several members of ROMP, this last Saturday worked with the forest service and alot of folks who came out for the hard back busting trail work day. As either Robert or myself have ever ridden at downieville it made for an interesting day. We were building a brand new trail which will later connect with the yuba river trail, and it overlooks downieville on your way in to town. For us that meant hiking in with tools, water, and snacks. At three we called it a day and made our way back to town to enjoy a dip in the river, pizza and beer.

Berry Steven's had made accommodations for us at a local lodge, and it was fun relaxing on the deck over looking the river and drinking beer. Later that evening we walked into town and enjoyed a fine meal at the best restaurant in town, then back to the lodge for some much needed rest.

We awoke at dawn to catch our special charter bus that took us way up to some small mining operation camp, now a park, and then rode up about 1600 feet to meet up with the PCT trail and then start our epic ride back to downieville. I found that yes there are rocks, steep down hills and some ruts to avoid -- but over all it was very enjoyable.

We should have a group ride there some time, speaking of which while we there we ran into several folks Justin, Mike, Nick, Mark, Rob, and a few others. Seemed to be the weekend to get out there and ride, the weather was excellant. I suffered a flat and two other people in our group also had flats. I guess it was the speed! Great trails, long drive, and expensive -- next time I'll camp out and ride up, sure!

See ya on the trails.
