Shasta Lemurian Classic Race Reports

Shasta Lemurian Classic

Race Report by Brenton Hamilton

This race had everything. Great climb to begin (3800 feet in 11 miles), snow at the top, fun decent and a couple of knee high creek crossings toward the end. Definitely will be doing this again next year.

The courses are structured as short (Beg, 14 miles), intermediate (Sport, 22 miles) and long (expert/pro and single speed, 30 miles). The race has a mass start in downtown French Gulch. The short course riders going one way and the intermediate and long course riders going the other. Rain during the week and on Friday night made for a very slippery course.

I started way back in the pack and slowly picked off riders on the climb. I was mixing it up with a bunch of single speeders until the split at the top. They went right on the long course and I went left on the intermediate. At this point, I suddenly found myself alone without a rider in sight. The downhill was a lot of fun and seemed to go buy very quickly. Before I knew it, I was on the last 2 miles of relatively flat fire road hawling ass toward the finish line.

Finished 3 of 28 in 2:12 in the Sport 35-44. Kathleen took first in her category and Sunshine took 3rd in hers - all in all a good showing for TWW.

Yes TWW faired well and I finally got my first podium finish. Yeah! I look forward to next year on the intermediate course. Hopefully, next year won't be sooooo wet and Kat will decide to do the long course so she doesn't whoop up on me. :)
