Hey All, This weekend was a smashing success, on all fronts, and a whole heckuva lot of fun! Trailwork started out with quite a good showing of TWW and VB: Paul, Jenny, David A., Erin, Robert, me, Heather, Meredith, Dawn and a new fellow Chris from Oakland. Many familar faces and off course our leaders Patty and Charles. We re-routed the upper section of Braille, which if you can recall, is basically a steep stutter bumby descent, which although fun and fast is not good for the mountain side. So, we basically, got to cut a new trail, which makes the old 6 second decent into a 30 second decent that winds through the trees. Now you snake through an old, burned redwood cathederal, which leads to about a 15 foot decent right into a log over (or jump). If you jump, you've got to thead-the-needle, between a tree on your left and fallen one on your right. As soon as you zip through these trees, the is another log than you can drop or jump and then an immediate, but not to sharp, left into a 15ft straight section, ending with another log over. Which if you carry enough speed through the turn can be made into another lauch point. Speaking of launching, it was the funniest thing, although my aching right shoulder doesn't think so...I told Charles that we were gonna grab our bikes and tool and head down the hill with Shane. Charles say, why not riding down the newly cut trail...sweet! So we make our way to our bikes and start rolling down one at a time. The first time down I take it easy and I decide to let the front wheel just roll and drop off the log. I stop turn around and think hmmmm....if we added another smaller log, you could have something to jump off. No sooner had I thought and one of the trailworks was cutting a large brach to fit into the gap. So I turned back up hill and aproach with a lot more speed this time. I launch the first log, thread the needle through the trees, hit the second jump with too much speed and proceed to sink my front tire into the soft dirt and endo right over the bars....good thing the dirt was still soft! Anyway, bottom line is that we cut new trail....and it felt damn good! We did one short loop after the trailwork on board bikes courtesy of Specialized. I think I fell in love with the Stumpjumper 120, effcient pedaling with the new septune rear shock and buttery suspension on the downhills like you cannot belive. Thanks Scott Specialzed for stick'n around to let us ride the bikes!! The premier of "Pure Sweet Hell", the Vela Bella fundraiser for the Barb and Sara's trip to CX Worlds, was a smashin' sucess! Chris and I calculated the number of seats and price per head and just from the entrance fee it looks like the Velas got their trip to Worlds covered! wooohoo! The movie was really cool. I think they didn't a great job of capturing the essence of ross, but as we all know and as mentioned a few time in the movies, you've got to try cross to really know what it's about. The movie showcase many local cx stars, Justin Robinson, Jaque-maynes brothers and some local cx builder like Rick Hunter. The footage of races spanning from Watsonville to the Worlds was supper cool. There was this especially cool shoot, where it looked like they had a camera mounted on somebody fork! Beers at the Seabrite brewery was the BOM! Lot's of hot cyclist men and women driking beer togethert, what more could you ask for...maybe being single...err, did I say that out loud. The VB raffael was awesome, I bought like 15 tickets and was forturnate enought to win twice! One prize included some eggbeater peddals! For those that didn't stick around till the end, ya'll missed out. After most were gone, the ladies of VB took over the dance floor and there were only a couple of us guys left over...gosh, that's the stuff fantasies are made of....anyway! Good times had by all. Thanks to the VB for once again shown' us how to party. You girl rock! |
