TWW helps out Turning Wheels for Kids!!!

TurningWheels for Kids purchases and provides brand new bicycles to children in our community. Last year they provided over 450 bicycles to needy and underprivileged children. TWW is donating 10 bike tool kits and will have a crew there on 12/16/06 to build some bikes. Come and join us for this great cause!!!

Scott Schlachter takes 2nd in the inaugural CCCX DH Series

Scott Schlachter roosts the CCCX DH #1 to a 2nd place finish in the Expert category, not far behind the race organizer who's pretty smokin' fast himself. Way to go Scott!!!

Read about Scott's race here.

TWW Chillin' at the Howell Mountain Challenge

Oh, and taking a few podiums home too. So what do you get when you take the fantastic NVDC course, turn it backwards and eliminate the death march? One suh-weet mountain bike race! Here's a little snippet from Allan Sherlock's race report:

I warm up by spinning up the blacktop around to the airport And down the trail, witch I must say is in great shape I love riding up here Any who back around the dam get a good sweat going and head back for the start

The race starts really easy up the black top to the trail I enter around 7th place Good day to race just wish my legs felt better.

TWW Tears it up at Downieville!!!

One word pretty much describes it:

DOWNIEVILLE!!!

Here is an excerpt from Frank Walden's race report:

So there is was several months back...my face with a chicken head on it and a $10K reward cause I didn't register for the race this year. Doesn't he know what retired means?? My training has consisted of doing all the fun things that you normally don't do when racing a full schedule, drinking way too much beer, eating ice cream, staying up till all hours of the night, you know...having fun! So there was a dilemma...let Gin smack talk me and do nothing, or do one last race. Well I decided to do the later and race. I couldn't let him do that s&!t without some kind of retaliation.

Allan Sherlock quietly takes 2nd Overall at the CCCX Series

Allan Sherlock in his typical "let my bike do the talking" style, with little fanfare, took 2nd overall in the Singlespeed (Sport) class in the CCCX Series. No surprise to us as Allan is one fit mutha. Maybe someday he'll move up to Expert so we can stop giving him so much $hit. Great job Allan!!!

TWW Dominates Lake Sonoma 8-Hour... again!

A great time again out at Lake Sonoma. Too bad the searing heat scared away a few people. But TWW and friends were there battling it out on the classic Billy Cross course. Not many areas to relax on that course. Here is an excerpt from Mike Gin's race report:

You know, it's events like these that make me proud of TWW. The comraderie was great - people loaning each other bikes, sharing tools, tubes, tires, water, food, and so on, working on each other's bikes, helping out other non-TWW teams, etc. What a great group of people we've got. Y'all rule! Thanks for making this weekend a great time.

Old school technical course.

No disco flyover but still fun.

TWW tears up Skyline!

Yup, more real MTB racing!!! Super technical course, lots o' TWW racers, good times. Conditions were perfect for the race with the serious rain showers showing up on the drive home! Here is a taste of Mike Urbina's race report:

Wow, the last time I did this race was in '02! Time flies. I carpooled up with Scott S. and Gin, it was a nice to shoot the crap on the drive up since I usually end up traveling alone. Arriving at the venue we were stoked to see partly cloudy skies and NO RAIN! I was expecting a mudfest but the weather was perfect. After a short warm up we headed to the line. I ended up starting at the rear of the sport field which was fine cuz many folks seem to go too hard on the opening climb and then blow up. Off the start I was slow and wasn't in the mood to bang bars so I just waited for things to settle down, using the first 1/2 mile or so for a warm up. I had Scott and Mike just ahead of me up the first climb before passing them about halfway up. Gin (the Ambassador) was jabbering away to his many fans in the pack as I gasped for air while going by him. How the hell does he do that?

Suh-weet singletrack, whoop-dee-doos,

and the death march... Must be the NVDC!!!

Let the real MTB racing begin!!! Classic course, good organizers, good times. Maybe a bit more muddy than usual, but still a can't miss race. Here is a taste of John Hillstrom's race report:

Not sure if I want to start with my excuse list or race report first... okay, excuses it will be. I just got back (on Saturday) from Moab where I rode 150+ miles offroad in the previous 3 days, including 85 miles on the White Rim in a day... so I think my legs were probably not recovered yet. At least, I hope that's what was going on...

Sea Otter!!! (what more do we need to say?)

Big weekend fun! Great time but glad it's over. It's a lot of work representin' at the Otter. TWW capped off a great weekend with some nice (and notso nice) results on XC Sunday. Here is a taste of Mike Gin's race report:

My race, well, after doing my blood undoping about 3 weeks ago, my expectations changed drastically. Initially, I wanted to finish in the top half of the class. But since I felt like I haven't trained in months and did a three week taper, now the goal was to finish and have fun. I accomplished both and did a sub-2 hour lap (1:58ish). I wore the infamous sombrero on my helmet too. Should be plenty of those photos circulating around soon.

More turns but similar results - CCCX#4

The racing is sorta fast and furious in March! Several people clearly are hoping for some serious form for the Sea Otter. Here is a taste of Matt Cerkel's race report:

Well, CCCX#4 was my first race of the year and I wasn't fully ready for it. My training is quite a bit behind when compared to last year. So far this year everytime I start getting into my training routine something happens and I end up being off my training plan. Luckily, things have now gotten back to normal and I should be getting back on track. My goal for the race was to to as well as I could and not DFL.

The TWW Fox XC Cup Series has begun... CCCX#3

Alrighty... the battle for the highly coveted Fox Racing Shox XC Cup has begun. And who shot out to the early lead? You'll have to check out the race reports to find out. Here's a little snippet from Isaias Job's race report (dude is one of our few non-sandbaggers racin' Expert):

Aha, the beginning of a whole new season of bike racing! The first race of the season is always an interesting one. You've been riding\training in crappy weather, you've spent countless hours indoors on a trainer or in the gym. You begin to wonder...why am I spending all of this time training indoors? Will it be worth it when the time comes to actually plant your two wheeled steed back on the dirt. Will you look leaner and meaner than the competition? Or will your winter beer gut just look slightly less gross than the comp. in the tight spandex costumes that we choose to race in?

More fun (yawn) at the CCCX Numero Deux

Well, looks like it's going to be a bizzy year - TWW is going to be a force to be reckoned with since most of us are sandbagging in the Sport class. :) Here's a little snippet from Rich Henthorn's race report (he was movin' so fast his photo is blurred):

For those that haven't raced here, and for those that need a reminder, this area of Fort Ord is full of singletrack on mostly gently rolling hills, with a technical factor approaching zero. The guys put together a course that doubles-back on itself and includes a paved road. The pace is usually very high, which makes this venue roadie-heaven. This time there was a lot more paved road than I recall them ever using, that made the roadie factor even greater. Still, it a good test of fitness for those early season racers.

Let the Races Begin!!! TWW representin' at the CCCX #1

Jeez, didn't CX season just end? Wait, this is the CCCX series. Well, whatever, TWW is already showin' some fine form (and the racers are pretty fast too). We got a podium and some other nice times and finishes. What a great start to the 2006 season. Here's a little snippet from Matt Leonard's race report:

Okay. So I had high expectations for this race, but wasn't sure how I would do. I showed up to the race at about 9:45, registered and went to warm up. I rode around for 30 minutes or so and was really feeling the repercussions of my Friday night at the USA vs Japan soccer game. I think I got a little too in to the USA, USA, USA!! Oh well. I lined up for the start with about 12-15 other people and was more nervous than usual. I guess I felt like I had a lot to prove to myself. I have been riding a lot more and feel like its really paid off. But this was my chance to really test myself. So the guy said start and we took off. Within seconds I was out in front and was really confused. Was I going that fast, or was every one else just pacing themselves?

TWW Raises Money to Help Replace Stolen Bikes

Some very undesirables stole the entire fleet of bicycles from BORP. This is a fantastic organization that provides hundreds of people with disabilities in the Bay Area with fitness, sports, and recreation opportunities. Disabilities include visual impairments, spinal cord injury, brain injury, cerebral palsey, spina bifida, amputees, MS.

TWW is making a contribution of $1,260 to help them replace the bikes. Hopefully this will help make their holidays a bit brighter. Companies and individuals have donated over $40,000 to replace the bikes. Great to see people step forward for this worthy cause.

Fade to Blue...

Way back when, our jerseys were blue. Then we changed to red as we evolved. Then we started to integrate both colors. Now we're devolving (or I guess getting back to our roots sounds better) and featuring blue as our primary color. Thanks to Erin Ambrose for doing a great job on the 2006 TWW Jersey! No you can't have it by Christmas, but you can definitely have it before Sea Otter.

Click on the image to your right to download the order form - ORDERS ARE DUE FEBRUARY 1ST - NO EXCEPTIONS!!! Don't miss out on our raciest jersey ever!

TWW's Hane Battles on the Frozen Tundra

Jeff traveled across the country to race in the CX Nationals. His reward? Freezing conditions but he did manage a top 50 finish - Good job Jeff!!!

Yes, this is 2005 stuff, but it's close enough to 2006 that we'll include it here.
