CCCX #5, Final Race in the Series!

I opted for a 33/17 ratio.  Showed up at Ford Ord at around 11am, the only other TWWers there were Kathleen, Jeff and Patrick. Jeff had a major mechanical at the start of his Sport race so decided to fix his cross bike and line up in the Expert field...."

Peavine Challenge - Tahoe!

John Hillstrom - I was headed up to Tahoe last weekend and was feeling bummed about missing the CCX race so I did a little web searching, and waddyaknow, but there's a race in Reno on Sunday morning called the Peavine Challenge.  I figured, what the heck, sounds like fun and a cool course, with LONG laps and lots of climbing (Peavine is the name of a mountain that overlooks Reno so when the  say "Challenge", they mean it).

Isaias & JT take 1st place (again) at the 24 Hours of Temecula!!!

24 Hr racing, especially on a 2-person team, is an interesting experience. You cannot go out and hammer out laps like a 4-5 person team, cause if you do you'll burn out, yet you can go a little harder than just the endurance pace of a solo effort. Last year, Jason and I tossed around the idea of doing the 24Hrs of Temecula as training for the Cascade Cream Puff 100 (www.puff100.netfirms.com). After hearing Julie Barrott and Kathleen rave about the technicality of the Temecula race course, we were convinced that Temecula would not only be good training, but it would also be a blast. So we signed up for our first ever 2-man team 24hr effort.

Firestone Walker

While everyone else was racing crosscountry at the NVDC, Scott Serry headed for Firestone Walker for some downhill action. Check out his race report:

Some highlights:

1)  The course was super fast and a bit changed from last year to add some distance, some technical elements, and to slow riders down a bit as they approached a tricky single track section.  Last year we would storm into this particular section at speeds approaching 50+ mph, and then need to hammer the brakes in time to go up around a tree.  Not this year.  Two 180 degree turns were added after that "freeway" so you had to slow down, turn, crank, slow down, turn again, and then pedal hard on the approach to the tree, followed by a 5' fall-away, hip drop with a blind landing on a 40 degree sandy down slope.  At speed the vertical from lip to landing is some 10'. Killer.
