TWW Olympics
May 28, 2001

Well, I certainly didn't put my money where my mouth was. But did I honestly expect to? Puh-leeze, I was just trying to get some juices flowing for this fun-filled event. It sure was a great time. Kudos to Keith for putting on a great event (he even did an opening ceremony in full Olympic/toga garb!).

First order is to thank Keith White for having the Olympics at his place in beautiful, Los Gatos 90210. Having the home court advantage garnered him with the first place win "I didn't pre-ride,,,Honest" huh!. Even Scott Schlachter was honest enough to admit he rode the DH course. Mike 'e-mountainbiker' Gin talked the talk but couldn't walk the walk....But, he's still my hero in the bunnyhop.

I was less spectacular, always doing something bonehead, like getting eliminated at the bunnyhop at 4 inches or was that 3? Scott, Keith can you verify that for me?, stacking it in the DH, 10 second track stand and the trials course which I should have cleaned but fell all over myself.

All the events were challenging and I beat Mike Gin!

The wheel building clinic was quickly ended when I couldn't lace a 32hole hub to a 28 hole rim. But I did get a chance to show the basics of truing on Gary's wheelset.

It's gonna be hard to top this years Olympics. Looking forward to next years, maybe without the 10 inches of leaves though.

TWW - what a weekend!

Thanks Keith & Scott Sc. for the amazing course; perfect! & to Joel for the creative extra events & awards ceremonies; and Mike & Keith for laboring away with palms & pc's throughout to handle the scoring. Thanks everyone for bringing lots of food - and a great variety - for all! I was the reigning female Chumpion from last year but - somehow - with competition this year, Eve & Chantal, I came in 3rd! Clearly just showing up isn't going to be enough anymore - hmmph! I'm going to have to figure out some effective female smack-talk to deter Eve - (or else work on my skills...) Thanks again! & see everyone at Bogg's?!!

Linda Palmer

This was my first TWW Olympics and I had a great time. I really like the rules, the scoring, the organization and the post event barbeque. Thanks to Keith (octavius clavius? flavor flavius? gluteus maximumus? biggus headius?) for being a great host, Scott and Linda for helping to put this together, Joel for the creative prizes and Mike for logistics and scoring. Also, there was a special guest appearance from Peter Donohue who came all the way from Korea just to particpate in these Olympics.

I would have done a lot better if I was sober. Sterlacci and I started pounding back the beers during the first event and I was pretty pie eyed by time we reached the trials event. The BAC level didn't seem to hinder my trackstand ability although I have never attempted a one handed trackstand before. Something to work on for next year. All the "Sweety Pie" cat calls seemed to help inspire me as well ;-) Thanks Eve (and the rest of the chorus line).

Thanks for the much needed distraction from working too hard.
