Race Report by Nick5 Solo riders, 3 beginner teams, 3 sport teams and 1 expert/pro team. Every year the course changes, this year, I think was the best without the hike-a-bike.The morning started out with some confusion on what the start time should be due to the website stating 10 am and the flyer statind 8 am, no biggie, that's grass roots racing! The race started at 9:30 and everybody settled in with the days racing. Towards the 4-5hr mark, there was talk about just making it a 6hr race since most of the teams placement was already decided. The Sport catagory was the only factor since the Fast Mofo's were only 6 minutes behind 1st. It was decided to finish the race at the 6hr mark, no biggie, that's grass roots racing! Here's how we all ended up: Rookie Class: Team Orient Express (Mark Ong, Robert, Jimmy and Lloyd) came in with with the win, 11.5 laps. The .5 was the victory lap that Mark was doing and Lloyd and I rode with him to make sure he came back. Last year he did the last lap, crashed, got knocked out and then rode lost down to the lake. Second place went to Team DH, where all of the 3 riders were on DH bikes! One bike broke and 2 riders dropped leaving Alex to finish 3 more laps on a 36+lb Intense! Third went to the Team Misfits: Plauged with crashes and mechanicals, they kept it going to the very end! Great Job guys! Sport: Team MOFO's (Loren, Chris, Nick and Mark) we were smokin' through the course with our times varying from 24minutes to 26minutes, I beat Loren's first lap time by 40+ seconds, he got pissed and followed up with 2 24 minute laps, to my 26 minute laps, kids! Mark (I haven't raced all year and have a broken derailleur) Davidson held his own with some great 26minute laps! Chris Lindsay-Smith, did some great lap times too. We held it all together and was very competitive but Team Kendall-Jackson with 2 sports and an expert finished 6 minutes ahead of us, we later found some disturbing news but they will have to deal with it. Solo: Pete Rudnick kicked some butt, 4th place. Dan Yu with the 'reorganization' of the Single Speed team did the solo trek too, 3rd place. Ron Castia proved that he's made of iron and took 2nd. He decided to race this solo as he was training for the 24 hour race in Tahoe later in the month. First place in this category went to a quiet guy on a Moots YBB. He was pretty consistent and focused for the whole race. Lunch afterwards and the loooonng drive home! More grassroots racing at: http://www.billycrossracing.com/. Support Billy Cross Racing! |
