Race report by Charles Price Well I did the Sizzler last Sunday. I was debating doing this ride, even though I pre registered. It rained the night before, I knew conditions were going to be bad and it was. Oh well I drove there thinking I wouldn't ride but just to see what was going on. The conditions were very soupy. For a moment there I thought there were a lot of black people doing this race, then as my eyes focused in I was able to see that these riders were plastered with mud. :) The race organizers decided to knock off 1 lap being that it was taking a longer time to complete a lap. That's when I decide to go ahead and go for it. When my race started, the rain also started and continued well after I was done. Yes, I was covered in mud when I was done, the downhills were a little scary not having the traction for braking or turning, there were a few areas that you could get wheel suck, I managed to make it through by walking through these areas, mud very deep, up to my calves in some areas. Derailleur started to jump around, causing me to ride in gears I didn't want to. Well I managed to finish the race. Came in dead last in my class, but was able to catch a lot of riders that left ahead of me. That gave me some inspiration to keep going on. So by finishing the race that netted me third place by just finishing. I like that. :) Still cleaning mud out of my bike.
Race Report by Tom Kramer I attended but did not race. My kids have been looking forward to this race for a couple months, and they didn't care what the conditions were (kudos to them and Charles). My 10 year old daughter, sporting a TeamWrongWay jersey, took second in the 9-12 year old group (boys and girls), and my 8 year old son took first in the 6-8 yr group. No special prizes, but none needed as they were totally pumped. They did a great job under the circumstances.
Scott Schlachter - 7th of 20 in Senior Men 28-34 Sport Downhill (+29 seconds) Hey, I did the Sizzler DH, Sport class and took 7th out of 20 racers. Hmm, doesn't it look like I might have cut and pasted it from a suggestion that Mike made? ;-) It was a freakin' mudbath, but it was fun. I think that I coughed up stuff out of my lungs for the following 3 hours. For those who don't know it, and still care, it is a DH course that has a couple of slight uphills in it, and in order to do well you really have to go anaerobic for a good part of lower part of the course. The jumping contest afterwards was awesome again (they did it last year as well). Overall, it was a fun time. I was hoping on seeing more TWWers! (Rich was volunteering at the top, and I saw Bob Knight wearing a nice helmet picking up his XC stuff at the bottom). -Scott
