1997 TWW OLYMPICS

Because the 1996 TWW Olympics were such a huge success, we decided to do it again in 1997. Here is the synopsis:

Livermore, CA. What do you get when you combine perfect weather, a lakeside venue, incredible food and prizes, nine “test-your-mountain-biking-skills” events, and a bunch of ravenous, schwag hungry TWWers? A fierce game of Twister? Probably would, but not in this case. You get the 2nd Annual TWW Olympics.

The competition was a great way for Team members to improve their bike handling skills and have fun doing it (which will help at the upcoming races). And they also got rewarded for their efforts. Now that sounds like a pretty good set up, doesn’t it? TWW also raised some badly needed funds to continue fighting the good fight (that is, keep mountain biking fun!)

Just in case you didn’t hear the list of events, here they are in order: Slalom, Cyclocross Hurdles, 100m Dash, Hillclimb, Time Trial, Trackstand, Bunny Hop, Tire Toss, and Limbo (okay, so the last two aren’t true skill builders - but they definitely were fun).

The medalists:

A Category -

1st Place - Scott "Gearhead" Seery
2nd Place - Mike "Eagle Scout" Gin
3rd Place - Joel "Camper" Northrup

B Category -

1st Place - Matt Ahern
2nd Place - Wes "F.M." Taylor
3rd Place - John Cardinelli

W Category -

1st Place - Laura "Track" Kreofsky

The winner of the most crashes award goes to Grace Cardinelli. Special thanks to the Cardinelli's for donating a small TV for the raffle. Also, special thanks to Joel "Camper" Northrup for getting the schwag and to Marc "Ansel" Spinali for putting up with being the referee.

The following sponsors were kind enough to help support this event (you should support them in return):

Bell Sports, Cal Bicycles, Camelbak, Clif Bar, Duegi/Quantum Bicycles and Fitness, Exus, Grip Shift, Ira's Bike Shop, Real, Ride-on Cable Systems, Salsa Cycles, Serfas, Speed Patch, Voler, White Lightning, Wild Woolies, WTB.

We look forward to an even bigger and better 3rd Annual TWW Olympics in 1998. Hope to see you there!

Olympics

It doesn't get much better than this - bikes, food, perfect weather, and a lakeside seat.

Medal

Scott, dog, and John pause to reflect on the intense action of the TWW Olympics.

Brainwashing them young so they'll think TWW is a good thing.

...7, 8, 9, 10. YOU'RE OUT!!! Another TWW'er cracks under the intense pressure of the TWW Olympics.
