Why Are You a TWW'er? America. Home of the free. Capitalism. The right to vote. Yes, this is a great country. You are basically free to do anything you want (within reason). Things like practicing whatever religion you choose, freedom of speech, choosing whatever mountain bike club that you'd like to join, the right to bear arms, to name just a few.
Yes, you have used your freedom of choice to choose TWW. So why did you choose us? Is it our mission statement - "... to have fun"? Or maybe the cute name? Or maybe you dig our duds. Or the refreshing, "not-holier-than-thou" approach. Or maybe you just stumbled upon us on the Internet and felt sorry for us. Or maybe you saw us at a race and thought to yourself, "If that loser can ride for a sponsored team, I can too." Or maybe you just want schwag.
Whatever your reason, you've probably made a sound investment. For $20, you get a lot of bang for your buck. Quarterly newsletter, discounts at some bike shops, discounts on sponsors' products, cool people to ride with, insurance on group rides, particpation in the TWW Olympics, and so on, and so on...
Ask people in the know - TWW is an outstanding organization. A diverse membership, highly visible (yes, you've seen the jerseys), and most importantly, a fun group.
All of this tooting of TWW's horn. There's got to be a catch. Yes, there is. Ask yourself how TWW has changed or impacted your life. Think of the good times it has created for you. For most people involved, this should be an easily quantifiable thing. Come on, the group rides, the soirees, 8 hour races, miniature golf, trail maintenance - you know these - just think a little bit.
Now go back in time, over 30 years ago when a very influential person in U.S. history said, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." Okay, back to present day. Replace "country" with "Team Wrong Way." Recite that at least 10 times RIGHT NOW. Because without you, the active member, TWW is nothing special - just another run o' the mill club.
Don't worry, you're not committed to organizing a MTB race in 1998 (if you'd like however, by all means...). Everything counts, regardless of magnitude. Yes, this has been addressed before. But it is vital to the success of TWW. We have grown from a friend-only po-dunk group to a legitimate MTB powerhouse thanks to our active members. Let's now take it to the next level.
Take pride in being on TWW. Feel some ownership in this group. Use the force. With a little bit of your passion, TWW can take over the World!
"Ich bin ein Team Wrong Wayer!"

Title Sponsorship or Bust!
Well, actually, that may not be a good thing. If we actually practiced what we preached, uh, well, we'd likely be goners. At this moment, TWW does not have a title sponsor for the 1998 season. Not that that is a horrible thing, however, it will make our lives difficult as usual.
But have no fear, we're still hopefully going to work with most of our past sponsors. Most of them were really good to TWW and we appreciate them for that. With their continued support, TWW will continue to grow and title sponsors will come running to us. It will be a bidding war like no others.
While the money from a title sponsorship would be nice, we've managed in the past. It will just take a little more effort to get us to the next level. One bright light in our future is that we have been asked by another large cycling group to co-organize a race. That's right. If things work out right, the profits of the race will be split 50/50 among the groups. With these funds, we won't need no stinkin' title sponsor (although, we'd still take the green).
Here's what you can expect from the race - a race where the racers are FIRST priority. Being racers ourselves, we know what should and shouldn't be done. While it is a fundraiser for both organizations, the racers will participate in an excellent race. You will see things that you haven't seen in any other race you've done. And you'll see the best things in the races you have done. We're hoping to have a huge prize list and raffle (nudge, nudge, wink, wink sponsors).
It will be in the East Bay, likely in May 1998. Although we don't have the time and location firmed up yet, you can bet this race will be one to remember. Ask what you can do to help.
